Untitled-1

This number has come up three times today.

Our total for Sonic was $7.77.

My phone malfunctioned and flashed 777.

On a myspace game, my cash totaled $777.

Yeah, I’m a little freaked.

Oh! Then, on our front door this morning,

we have little muddy handprints on the outside.

Except they’re all facing downwards, with the thumbs in.

I can’t figure out how in the HELL that happened.

You can cross your arms and turn your hands like that, but they are

too far apart, and too small to reach that wide in that position.

It’s like someone was holding a kid upside down while they

touched the door. From the top to the bottom, and there is

ONE handprint the right way, but it’s too far up for a kid to reach alone.

Either we have a little poltregiest or someone’s messing with me.

Still with the black and white :)

I love taking kid’s photographs. Trying to capture

their personalities can be difficult

but it is so rewarding when you get it right.

I can’t wait for our business to spread it’s wings,

I’m tired of flapping around.

I’ve got a new obsession…

I dig black and white lately.

We had a fun day playing in the yard, so I took

the opportunity to take a few snapshots.

Jackson is so funny, he ran around in a

sugar-induced delirium, babbling and falling all over

the place. Hunter just kind of laid back and

watched all the action while explaining the difference between

Venom and the black Spiderman

with a passion. I’ll never confuse the two again. :P

I love my babies more with every day that passes.

The heat is sweltering, but the beauty of nature comes out. I can’t wait for winter!

I got some sewing done, finally!

The quilts are baby-sized, but I love them! I’m going to have to buy some fabric to make a full-sized quilt this weekend… maybe make some Christmas gifts.  Who wouldn’t love a home-made quilt?? I’ve had to take a hiatus on my knitting, since my hands have started hurting so bad from it. I want to make a few more car-sized quilts for the kids when we’re on road trips, maybe with little pillows. I’ve already got plans for backseat organizers, but I want some thicker fabric like tweed or canvas.

I need to make myself a new purse, too, but need that thicker fabric again… I made mine 6 months ago out of pillowcases (like the quilts!) and it’s great, but very flimsy.

Just waiting to get more fabric, so I can get started on the next one!!

We’ve had a wonderful weekend :)

Posted in Crafts by rachael on July 5, 2009

So I’ve been in a baking, sewing, knitting, all around crafty mood the past couple of days. I’ve made three dresses for Fayth out of some vintage pillow cases I had laying around, I’ve knit a swiffer mop cover that works WAY better than the pads you buy for the mop, and I’ve made two cobblers. (Very yummy, I might add! The one for desert tonight was a peach and pear cobbler with crumble topping, and the one for Matt and Stacy’s BBQ was plain ole’ peach.)

We all had an amazingly wonderful time at Matt and Stacy’s! The food was great, there was laughter all night, and there were kids everywhere, including itty-bitties. I made new friends, and so did the kids. It was really, really nice.

I think that I might try to find the quilt squares I have cut out for Brennan’s blanket and get going on that again, since I found my batting and bias tape. He’s two months old already, but I think she’ll like the colors and fabric.

I also want to make a camera strap cover for my Nikon band and maybe a cover for Jake’s collar, since I found a tutorial online for those two things.

Jake is actually being good for once, not jumping on anyone or peeing on anything! (that I’ve noticed yet!!) I love my dog, but sometimes he drives me crazy! He’s playing catch with me while Jack  is watching Hunter play Guitar Hero as I blog.

Hollie is out trying to figure out why so many nodes are down, and it’s supposed to get very stormy soon. It rained earlier, and got pretty nasty for a few minutes before just stopping and clearing up again.

Some eye candy for you, because this is the stuff that I want to remember forever. :)

Nuclear war, anyone?

Posted in Uncategorized by rachael on June 24, 2009

Has anyone read this?

Apparently the leaders of North Korea have gone completely bat-shit crazy.

I’m sick of this shit. I barely remember the Gulf War, but the “War Against Terror” has been going on for most of my adult life. We’ve been in Iraq for nearly 8 years, and Afghanistan for longer. I can’t say that I’ve experienced the horror of war first-hand, but I’ve seen the aftermath of losing a loved one to war. My best friend lost a very close friend of hers to an IED. Travis Buford was on his way to help another soldier that had been hit by an IED. That was two years ago, and the hurt is just as fresh today as it was the day they got the news. I’ve seen her go through hell, and she was just a friend. God only knows what his family is going through.

I don’t want my kids to ever experience that. I don’t want our family to go through what Travis’ family goes through on a daily basis.

Now this bullshit with North Korea needs to stop. I will never understand what makes war so appealing to some people. Death and destruction and heartache and pain just don’t do it for me, I guess.

One thing stands between us and our dream.

I’m sure that most of you know by now that Stacey and I are trying to start up our own photography buisiness. We’ve got a modest portfolio going, I’m working on a website, and we’ve got a name. All we need is our DBA license, and we’ll be set! The only problem with that is that it’s going to cost roughly $130-$150, and we just don’t have that right now. So, we wait. We can’t legally use our name when taking photos, so we’re “building our portfolio” with scattered appointments.

I think that we have the prices worked out finally  and we’ve done lots of comparing and searching of photographers in our area to stay fair and competitive. I don’t want to undercut the people who’ve been around for a while, and I certainly don’t want to overcharge people. Portrait photography is expensive no matter where you go, and if it isn’t, (think Wal*Mart) they lure you in with the $7.99 package but talk you into spending $50 anyways. Even then, you get at the most two poses, and if the first pose that they take didn’t get a smile, then oh well!

We don’t do that. We snap away until we have the perfect shots. I took 178 pictures of Brennan to make sure that I got a handfull of great photos. We did different poses, different angles, different clothing. Sure, it took a lot longer, since we aren’t in a studio and don’t have a cut-and-paste system, but the portraits turned out SO much nicer than anything I could ever expect to get of my kids in a studio.  Some good sunlight and a cute face are all that we need to capture those perfect moments.

We also don’t just do babies and children, although that will probably be our main customer base. People love portraits of their kids. But husbands also like the boudoir-style photos of thier wives. Wives love family portraits. Pets look great behind the lense, also! The possibilities in this business are endless. We might wind up doing wedding photography, or being commissioned by the county or city to take photos of events as freelance photographers.  Or, it could all bust and we’ll have some awesome memories. You never know.

I guess that I’m just super excited about this. Opportunities like this don’t come often for most people, and I want to make the most of it. This might be our one chance!

I miss this…

This is one of the only pictures of me and my baby brother together… I’ll find the other one tonight and post it.

I miss you Bud.
